Tumaco

PEARL WITH A TASTE OF SEA AND MANGROVE

San Andrés de Tumaco is “the pearl of the Colombian Pacific”, named after a discovery of the largest pearl in the world found yet. However, its inhabitants preserve their name due to its natural beauty found in the plain of the Colombian Pacific, associated with the heritage through exceptional manifestations such as marimba music, delicious dishes such as fish encocados, concha ceviche and toyo rice. In February, the Carnival of Fire is celebrated. It is a festivity that recognizes the Tumaqueña culture, its dances, typical costumes and the merriment of this region. It is a meeting point between culture and nature. There are many experiences such as the process of cocoa, piangueras and clams that share their knowledge to each traveler, which makes them return to this place and exalt the living culture of the Pacific. Beaches and mangroves are a must, because they are a gift for the senses. You will also be able to do wildlife sightings, the main protagonists being humpback whales. There are multiple activities to enjoy that confirm that Tumaco is part of one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world.

ESSENTIALS IN TUMACO:

  1. El Morro: In the middle of the sea the characteristic mound rises. It is believed that this rock possibly belonged to a rock wall of which traces can still be seen on the beach and that its shape was given by the waves and the wind, taking on a triangular shape.
  2. El Morro Beach: it is seen at the end in a tropical paradise of constant summer, with breeze and warm sea, exquisite typical dishes and countless sun and beach activities such as kayaking, sailing and walks on the beach.
  3. Bocagrande Island: Spectacular and wide beach characterized by being bathed in transparent waters and fine, silvery sands. The song "Noches de Bocagrande" was inspired and composed by Tumaqueño Faustino Arias for this island.
  4. Visit the mangroves: It is one of the areas with the greatest abundance of mangroves in the country, ecosystems of natural wealth and hydrobiological resources of great importance.
  5. Taste the gastronomy of the Pacific: it is truly exquisite: its preparations are mostly made with seafood, bananas, and herbs. A very important gastronomical event “The Tasting of the Pacific Gastronomic Festival” is held there.
