Day 1: Santiago and Colón Putumayo - Inga Awaska workshop and Pakari Association

Specialty of the bead and wool weaving route.

  • Reception at Antonio Nariño airport in Pasto, baggage handling
  • Transfer to Sibundoy, journey of approximately 3 and a half hours,
  • Panoramic stop at the Cocha lagoon and the Bordoncillo moor from where we can get great views and excellent photographs
  • Lunch
  • Arrival in the Municipality of Santiago where we will have the opportunity to visit the Inga Awaska workshop of the Jacanamijoy family, a family of artists who work with beaded fabrics and who will share with you all their ancestral essence of tradition inherited from their grandparents,
  • Snack while we share the word with the family and the other artisans who make up the workshop.
  • Here we will have the opportunity to learn how to operate the loom and weave our own souvenir in beads.
  • Transfer to Colón Putumayo where we will take a tour of the park
  • Visit a craftswoman from the Inga indigenous people and her Pakari association, who will tell us about wool weaving and explain each and every symbol that is marked on the Chumbes (the little bands that women use to protect their bellies in their traditional attire).

Day 2: Hike to the El Salado thermal waterfall and visit to the Mother Earth Association

  • If you are in good physical condition, you can go trekking up the mountain to reach Salado, a thermal water waterfall used by ancestors for their healing rituals.

  • In the afternoon we travel to Sibundoy to visit Mamita Emerenciana, a mamita from the Camentsa indigenous people. There, in the grandparents' house, we will be able to learn the story of this brave woman who highlights the value of family, unity, and how through weaving she manages to heal many wounds of different women who have been abused.
  • Tour of the chagra to learn about medicinal plants and their connection to the sacred Camentsa symbolism.
  • Exhibition of high quality crafts and different innovative designs.

Day 3: Cultural tour of the Sibundoy Valley - Visit Putumayo Art and Design Workshop

  • Cultural tour through the park of interculturality where we can observe works of art carved in wood, one of the very typical artisanal samples of this area of Putumayo,
  • Visit the town hall to learn about the traditions of the Kametsa people and their customs as an indigenous people.
  • Visit the House of Culture to learn a little about the besknaté or carnival of forgiveness, the traditional festival that takes place every year 8 days before Ash Wednesday.

  • Transfer to the Mama Señora mansion where we can appreciate a gallery of wood carvings and beaded veneer art made by the master Gerardo Chazoy, a renowned artisan from the region.

Day 4: Visit Enabuatambayen workshop

  • Visit Mama Pastora, a Kametsa grandmother who with much love and patience will show us why she is the teacher of teachers in weaving. With her we will be able to observe the sayos, a typical woven ruana, which according to its color represents the hierarchy of the person wearing it and also has sacred symbolism of the Camentsa people with stories that she will also interpret for us.
  • Transfer to Pasto airport to take the flight back home or if you want to learn more about our artisans from southern Colombia you can continue your route through Nariño.
